Edge preview gets several new goodies on iOS

Microsoft has released a new update for Edge browser on iOS, but this time the new features are only available for users participating in its beta testing program.

First and foremost, Edge browser for iPhone now sports support for Siri shortcuts, a feature that Apple has introduced as part of iOS 12 back in September. This means that you can launch the browser straight from the lock screen, thus making browsing much faster and a substantially more seamless experience.

Additionally, Microsoft is bringing Edge to the widget screen, which essentially allows users to launch their favorite websites directly. In other words, you no longer have to open Edge and then tap a top site, but you can go directly to the desired webpage by tapping it from the widget screen.

All improvements available for TestFlight users

Quick actions are now supported with access from the bottom bar, and Edge also integrates small changes to provide continuous browsing.

Whenever you launch the browser, you are allowed to choose between two options and decide whether you want to open a new tab or just start from where you left off before closing the app. This makes it possible to re-open the previous tabs automatically, just like it’s the case in other browsers.

All these improvements are available right now as part of the TestFlight app, but they should land for everyone in a future update for Microsoft Edge in the App Store.

Microsoft Edge is certainly evolving on iOS, and the same thing happens on Android as well, as Microsoft has become super-committed to improving its app on these two mobile platforms. Edge serves as one of Microsoft’s solutions for bringing Windows 10 in sync with mobile operating systems, powering features like Continue on PC to provide seamless transition from one device to another regardless of the platform.
